The 2014 HP Byron Nelson Championship continues to connect with fans and ticketholders through various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Google+. The Nelson has been recognized for its social media activation by the PGA TOUR and, year after year, raises the standard for major event fan engagement.
“We want Nelson fans to go beyond the roles of ticket holder and spectator,” Tournament Director Jon Drago said. “Our goal is for fans to engage with the tournament in a meaningful way that extends beyond the golf course and reaches their network in the community. Social media allows us to seamlessly accomplish this.”
The Nelson’s Social Team and Very Important Tweeter (VIT) program are made possible by the Irving Convention & Visitors Bureau. Fans can stop by the Pavilion Courtyard and visit the Nelson Social Team. By liking or following one of our social pages, they can receive cool swag. Tweets tagged with #HPBNC could appear on the video boards throughout the course. Each afternoon at 2 p.m., the Nelson will reward two ticketholders VIT badges that come with access to the Irving Villa and Patio Box. This exclusive seating area will provide VITs with the bestseats in Irving at No. 18! @VisitIrvingTx #VisitIrving
Other ways to get engaged socially include:
Swag Bags & Giveaways – Ticketholders are encouraged to connect with the Nelson on Twitter so they can participate in the daily swag bag scavenger hunts. Drawstring bags filled with Nelson, Irving CVB, and Four Seasons goodies such as golf tees, sunglasses, tank tops, and water bottles are hidden in various locations around the tournament grounds. @HPBNC will tweet a “Swag Bag Alert” to tip-off tournament guests on where they can find the goods.
Photo Ops – Ticketholders will have the opportunity to share unique tournament photos on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to help spread the message of the Nelson and the Momentous Institute. Fans can have their photo taken with a cardboard cutout of the tournament trophy or with the Momentous Institute’s Roaming Heart. Fans who post a photo with the Roaming Heart using the hashtag #BeAPartOfTheHeart will have the opportunity to score daily ticket upgrades. For those who “Show Us You’re A Winner” by posting a photo with the tournament trophy using the hashtag #HPBNC will have the opportunity to win prizes from the Four Season Resort and Club (@FSdallas).
Behind The Scenes – Fans who follow the Nelson on social media platforms will have access to exclusive behind-the-scenes content. Twitter will feature quotes from the press room, leaderboard updates and information on what is going on around the tournament grounds, while Instagram will host a collection of photos featuring players, fans and festivities. Facebook will also offer can’t-miss content from the Nelson!
#Beapartoftheheart – Spectators can leave their mark on the 2014 Nelson in a show of support of changing the odds for kids growing up in poverty, by signing the iconic heart located at the Momentous Institute booth on Champion’s Way. Fans that like or follow Momentous Institute via social media can spin the prize wheel to win great prizes, including upgraded tickets, T-shirts and sunglasses.
