Philip Barbaree, Cooper Dossey, Ryan Grider and Davis Shore to be honored at 2016 AT&T Byron Nelson
Irving, Texas, April 21, 2016 – The Salesmanship Club of Dallas announced today Philip Barbaree, Cooper Dossey, Ryan Grider and Davis Shore as the 2016 Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Awards winners. The four winners are among the world’s top junior golfers and will be presented their awards at this year’s AT&T Byron Nelson.
Philip Barbaree (Shreveport, LA)
Barbaree is the reigning champion of both the 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and 2015 Rolex Tournament of Champions. He is currently ranked as the No. 1 junior golfer in the world according to the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and named the Rolex Junior Player of the Year. Barbaree helped the United States win a team championship at the Spirit International tournament in addition to winning the individual championship. The 17-year-old has committed to Louisiana State University.
Cooper Dossey (Austin, TX)
Dossey is ranked No. 16 in the 2016 golf signing class as well as No. 2 in Texas among 2016 signees. The 16-year-old was runner-up at the 2015 Polo Golf Junior Classic and has had 10 career top-10 finishes in AJGA competition. He was also runner-up at the individual 2015 UIL Texas 5A High School Championship and serves as his high school team’s captain. Dossey has committed to Baylor University.
Ryan Grider (Lewisville, TX)
Grider is the reigning champion of the 2015 Byron Nelson Junior Championship. Grider had five top 20 finishes in AJGA events in 2015 and made it to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Junior Amateur tournament. He was awarded Second-Team All American by the AJGA and is currently ranked the No. 6 player in the AJGA Polo Rankings. Grider has committed to Southern Methodist University.
Davis Shore (Knoxville, TN)
Shore is currently ranked No.3 in the AJGA Polo Rankings and is the 2015 champion of the Jones Cup Invitational. Shore also won the 2014 Scott Stallings AJGA Open and the 2014 Tennessee Junior Amateur tournament. He is currently ranked No. 1 in the 2017 golf singing class according to Golfweek’s Junior Rankings and consistently holds a consensus top-five junior ranking in the world. Shore has committed to the University of Alabama.
The Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Awards were created in 2008 to recognize the achievements of junior golfers around the world that excel at a high level of tournament play as well as academics, outstanding character and dedication to community service. The awards honor Byron Nelson’s legacy and his commitment to mentoring and supporting young golfers.
Recipients will attend the AT&T Byron Nelson, receive a behind-the-scenes look at the tournament, meet PGA TOUR professionals, and enjoy a private awards dinner with their families.
Past recipients include Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Cody Gribble, Emiliano Grillo and Austin Connelly.
Award winners have gone on to win other PGA TOUR events as well as major junior events. Several go on to receive scholarships to play for major Division 1 universities and ultimately join the PGA TOUR.
