Returning Nelson champions Sang-Moon Bae, Jason Dufner and Keegan Bradley look to find more success among many forceful PGA TOUR names in Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Dustin Johnson, Charl Schwartzel and Jordan Spieth as the field for the 2014 HP Byron Nelson Championship was set today. “Our field once again provides an exceptional dynamic of PGA TOUR veterans, young stars who are the future of this game, along with a strong international presence,” said 2014 Tournament Chairman Patton Chapman.“We look forward to seeing the excitement that plays out over the next few days.”
Players in the field have combined to win 18 major championships. The field also includes 24 players that have won on the PGA TOUR in the past two seasons.
Other notable names appearing at the Nelson include Jimmy Walker, Patrick Reed, Graham DeLaet, Harris English, Ryan Moore and Gary Woodland.
2013 U.S. Junior Amateur champion, and seventeen year-old Highland Park senior Scottie Scheffler will be making his first PGA TOUR start as a sponsor’s exemption, following in the footsteps of Dallas’ own Jordan Spieth, who made his first start at the Nelson as a sponsor’s exemption in 2010.
There will be a strong international presence at the Nelson this year featuring players such as Marcel Siem and Martin Kaymer of Germany; Oosthuizen, Schwartzel, Immelman, Goosen and Sabbatini of South Africa; Singh (Fiji), Cabrera (Argentina), Harrington (Ireland), and defending champion Sang-Moon Bae (South Korea).
The 2014 HP Byron Nelson Championship will be played May 12-18 at the TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas in Irving. Children 13 and under receive free admission, and free public parking and shuttle service is available at the intersection of SH 114 and Loop 12 in Irving (3400 N. Walton Walker Blvd., Irving, TX 75062). Fans may also travel by DART to the Northlake College Station where free shuttles will be available to the main entrance.
