With a mission of transforming children’s futures and creating new possibilities for success, Momentous Institute works to build and repair social emotional health for children and families who experience stress from poverty or trauma. Specifically, the organization directly serves more than 5,500 children and family members annually through mental health and educational programming at its nationally acclaimed Momentous School.
Powered by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, AT&T Byron Nelson and Momentous Institute have made a charitable impact of over $160 million since 1968. The combined effort has transformed over 100,000 lives for children and families in North Texas.
“Mr. Nelson agreed to lend his name and help the Salesmanship Club establish the tournament with the sole goal of fundraising for the work of Momentous Institute,” said AT&T Byron Nelson Tournament Director Jon Drago. “As the Salesmanship Club celebrates its 100th anniversary supporting Momentous Institute’s efforts to transform the well-being of children and families in our community, we couldn’t be more proud of this honor.”
The award comes with a $30,000 grant from the PGA TOUR to assist Momentous Institute, which will be utilized to further support the social, emotional and academic development of the 248 students at Momentous School. The facility serves low-income children from three years of age through fifth grade, providing rigorous academic experience with a focus on social emotional learning.
“On behalf of Momentous School, an arm of Momentous Institute, we are grateful to the PGA TOUR for the Charity of the Year award,” said Momentous Institute Executive Director Jessica Trudeau. “At Momentous Institute, we know a child’s social emotional health is a strong predictor of academic success. This award allows Momentous Institute to continue our work with the hope that we can see all children reach their full potential.”
Backed by its network of volunteers, the PGA TOUR and its tournaments generated a record $190 million for more than 3,000 charitable causes in 2018, bringing the all-time total to $2.84 billion.
The 2020 AT&T Byron Nelson, won this year by Sung Kang, will be held May 4-10 at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
